The Planet Zoo Animals - All the animals in the game at a glance

The latest game from British developer Frontier Developments, Planet Zoo, was released today, November 5, 2019, on Steam. This means that not only Planet Zoo pre-orders can play the game, but it is available to everyone. So it's time to get to know the game concept. The centerpiece of the game are the many different animals that you can house in your zoo. But some animals are also reserved for the Deluxe Edition. More on that below.

The Planet Zoo Animals

African Buffalo / Kaffernbüffel

The African buffalo is found in large parts of eastern and southern Africa. It inhabits savannas and wooded river areas.

African Bush Elephant / Afrikanischer Elefant

The African elephant is the largest land animal in the world and lives between 60 - 70 years old.

African Wild Dog / Afrikanischer Wildhund

The African wild dog is the largest wild dog in the world and lives in the African savanna.

Aldabra Giant Tortoise / Aldabra-Riesenschildkröte

The Aldabra giant tortoise lives up to 120 years old and lives mainly in coastal areas with low-growing vegetation.

Baird-Tapir / Mittelamerikanischer Tapir

The Baird's tapir lives mainly in Central America and lives in the lowlands or mountains up to 3600 meters high.

Bengal Tiger / King Tiger

The Bengal Tiger (also called the King Tiger) reaches a shoulder height of up to 110 cm. The males weigh up to 220 kg, the females up to 140 kg.

Black Wildebeest / White-tailed Gnu

The White-tailed Gnu is an African antelope and is only found in southern Africa.

Boa Constrictor / King Snake

The King Snake is a species of boa. The ability to adapt to different local conditions is particularly noteworthy.

Bornean Orangutan / Bornean Orangutan

The Bornean Orangutan belongs to the family of apes, is an omnivore and grows to 1.40 meters in the wild.

Brazilian Wandering Spider / Banana Spider

Phoneutria is a very aggressive and extremely poisonous spider species. So the spiders often bite without warning, but they don't always inject their venom.

Cheetah / Cheetah

The cheetah is a feline predator and is considered the fastest land animal in the world. They can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. They can reach the top speed within 3 seconds and accelerate as fast as a Porsche 911 Turbo S. Cheetahs are closely related to pumas.

Common Ostrich / Common Ostrich

The common ostrich is a running bird that can grow to 2.8 meters for males and 2 meters for females. It is native to the southern Sahara.

Common Warthog / Common Warthog

The common warthog is a mammal found in Africa. Despite its low size (85 cm), it can weigh up to 150 kg. The warthog is a herbivore.

Galapagos Giant Tortoise / Galapagos Giant Tortoise

The Galapagos giant tortoise is a land turtle that can live to be very old. Turtle Harriet was about 176 years old.

Gemsbok / Gemsbok

The gemsbok, also called the oryx, is a large antelope found in southern Africa. Its main food source is grass, but it also digs up roots or eats berries.

Gharial / Gharial

The gharial is a crocodile that can grow up to 5 meters long and has been classified as critically endangered since 2007. An adult can reach a weight of up to 250 kg.

 

Giant Forest Scorpion / Heterometrus

This scorpion is in the special species Heterometrus swammerdami the largest scorpion in the world. With a length of up to 26 cm, this scorpion is 5 times as large as the Euscorpius found in Europe.

Goliath Bird-Eating Tarantula / Goliath-Vogelspinne

The Goliath-Vogelspinne is the largest spider in the world. With a leg span of up to 30 cm, this spider is an impressive creature.

Goliath Frog / Goliathfrosch 

The Goliath frog is found in West Africa and can weigh up to 3 kilograms. Its population is classified as very endangered.

Green Iguana / Grüner Leguan

The green iguana lives in South and Central America and is mainly herbivorous. Its life expectancy in captivity is described as up to 17 years.

Grizzly Bear / Grizzlybär

The grizzly bear (also known as the brown bear) is a subspecies of the brown bear. Living in North America, the grizzly bear can reach a body length of up to 2 meters.

Himalayan Brown Bear / Isabellbär

The Isabellbär (also known as the Himalayabär) is, like the grizzly bear, a subspecies of the brown bear. Its striking reddish-brown fur color and its rare occurrence in the mountains of the Himalayas are striking.

The hippopotamus or Nile hippopotamus is a plant-eating mammal and lives in South and

Indian Peafowl / Blue Peafowl

The blue peafowl is a pheasant-like bird species which can live up to 17 years in captivity. Older male peafowls are often kept as pets because of their special appearance.

Indian Rhinoceros / Indian Rhinoceros

The Indian rhinoceros is found in northeastern India and in protected areas of Nepal. The one-horned animal also makes a special impression with its body length of up to 3.8 meters.

Lehmann's Poison Dart Frog / Lehmann's Poison Dart Frog

The Lehmann poison dart frog (named after Colombian biologist Federico Lehmann) and lives in tropical areas. His body is striped to deter his predators.

Lesser Antillean Iguana / Lesser Antillean Iguana

Mainly still occurring in the eastern Caribbean, the Lesser Antillean iguana lives in trees. The iguana is classified as endangered.

Mandrill

The mandrill is a primate species and related to meerkats. It lives in central Africa and is particularly striking due to its red-blue coloration on the face and rear.

Okapi

The okapi (also called forest giraffe) lives in the rainforest in Central Africa. In terms of body shape, the okapi resembles a hoofed animal. The life expectancy is on average 15 to 20 years.

Plains Zebra / Steppenzebra

The plains zebra belongs to the family of horses and is the most widespread zebra species in Africa. Lions are the biggest predators of zebras.

Pronghorn Antelope / Gabelbock

The pronghorn antelope, also called pronghorn, is found in North America. On land, it can reach a speed of up to 98 km/h.

Red Panda / Roter Panda

The red panda, also called lesser panda, is a dog-like species. The red panda lives in the eastern Himalayas and mainly feeds on bamboo.

Reticulated Giraffe / Netzgiraffe

The reticulated giraffe can reach a height of up to 5.6 meters and weigh up to 900 kg. Giraffes can also make sounds, which can sound like a grunt or a twittering noise from mother animals.

Ring-tailed Lemur / Katta

The katta (also lemur) is a primate species that occurs in Madagascar. This lemur species is active during the day, in contrast to other lemurs. The animals are notable for their sunbathing at the beginning of the day.

Saltwater Crocodile / Saltwater Crocodile 

The saltwater crocodile (or also the freshwater crocodile) is the largest crocodile species still alive today. Male saltwater crocodiles can reach a length of up to 5.2 meters.

Snow Leopard / Snow Leopard

The snow leopard is a cat species which lives in the Himalayas, India or also in northern Russia. These large cats live mainly in mountains and feed on sheep, ibex and partly also on certain plant species.

Timber Wolf / Timber Wolf

The wolf is the largest predator from the dog family. Wolves live mainly in packs and can reach an age of up to 20 years in zoos.

Titan Beetle / Titan Beetle

The titan beetle is a beetle species which can grow up to 17 cm. This makes them the largest beetles in the world. Titan beetles live in tropical rain forests in South America, particularly in northern Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.

West African Lion / West African Lion

The West African lion (also Senegal lion) lives with a population of about 400 wild animals in Sub-Saharan Africa. Their population is classified as endangered.

Western Chimpanzee / Western Chimpanzee

The Western chimpanzee is a subspecies of the chimpanzee which is mainly native to Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea and surrounding countries. Unlike its relatives, the Western chimpanzee lives in open areas with single trees rather than in dense forests.

Western Lowland Gorilla / Western Lowland Gorilla

The Western lowland gorilla (scientific name: Gorilla gorilla gorilla) is a gorilla species which lives in western Central Africa. The animals usually live in groups consisting of the male, several females and the offspring.
