Total War: Three Kingdoms is the latest installment in the series by game developer Creative Assembly. The game, set to release on May 23rd, 2019, combines history and myth of ancient China.
More specifically, the three ancient kingdoms of China. This era of East Asian history is comparable to the Trojan War or the Arthurian legend. Each of the three kingdoms had their own historical heroes who, over time, became shrouded in myth and legend. Three Kingdoms picks up on this and makes these figures superhuman heroes. This is very reminiscent of another part of the series, Total War: Warhammer.
In addition to their combat abilities, these figures also have relationships with each other that are influenced by the player. This allows you to freely decide who is friend and who is foe. This makes the course of the game always different and individually linked to the previous events. The diplomacy system has thus been completely revised and is one of the best in the entire series. This is especially evident in the behavior of the AI opponents, which can sometimes be very clever. So you always have to be on your guard, not to fall into a trap, both on the battlefield and in diplomatic affairs.
The game also features a multiplayer mode that allows co-op play of the campaign. As before, it is also possible to create custom battles. These can be played alone or with friends.
In addition to the many innovations, this part tries to move a little more towards history.
In historical battles, you can take a small trip back in time to the 2nd century.
In this mode, the generals and heroes have no special abilities.
In summary, one can say that Total War: Three Kingdoms has something to offer for all fans of real-time strategy games. And for newcomers to the genre, the game offers a good introduction.
