Abalon celebrates its Steam launch
Fans of dice, cards, and strategy can rejoice because the roguelike deckbuilder game Abalon is launching today on Steam. Developed by D20Studios, you'll dive into a fascinating world that combines aspects of Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, and Final Fantasy Tactics. The game offers a successful mix of turn-based tactical gameplay and card elements, rounded off by a roguelike adventure.
At launch, there's a big content update called Psychic Lizard Wizard, which brings four new playable summoners and many new cards to the game. Among them are the Magiscales - a race of cybernetic-psychic lizard wizards who control gravity and can transform into other units.
Explore the World of Abalon
In Abalon, you'll experience grid-based movement and spell cards that merge into a kind of magical chess game. You summon creatures onto the battlefield, command them to move and attack, and destroy enemies and terrain with fireballs or meteor showers. You can manipulate gravity, time, and space to gain advantages and trigger impressive combinations.
A total of 20 playable characters are available, including squirrel-throwing druids, time-traveling steampunk rats, and skeleton-raising lich kings. Each summoner masters two of five magic schools, providing numerous opportunities to customize your strategy.
Open World Exploration
Abalon invites you to explore a constantly changing open world. Exciting encounters can be decided by a D20 dice roll, allowing you to recruit new group members or even attend a goblin birthday party. You have the option to retreat, undo actions, or replay battles.
Deck Building for Tacticians
The deep strategic deck building in Abalon allows you to adjust your deck at any time when resting at a campsite. Choose two guardians to support your hero and up to 20 cards from a pool of over 400 spells, additional units, and equipment. By finding artifacts, you can further upgrade your heroic team and create synergies.
Accessibility and Playful Art Style
Abalon scores with an accessible and playful art style. The characters literally look up to you to be commanded. Simple point-and-click controls and full gamepad support make it easy to get into the game.
