Against the Storm receives Steam Deck Verified Status
Friends, get your virtual shovels ready! The developers of Against the Storm have announced that their game has received the coveted Steam Deck Verified Status. This milestone was achieved thanks to several improvements in readability and controls that have been introduced in the past few months. A big thank you goes to the Steam team for recognizing the changes and reevaluating the game in a positive light.
Key Changes at a Glance
In order to meet the requirements for the Steam Deck Verified Status, the developers have made several important changes:
- The Steam Deck version can now read gamepad inputs and display controller symbols.
- Various UI elements have been modified to improve readability in 16:10 resolutions.
- The Steam Deck version of the game now automatically starts with the maximum supported UI size.
In addition, the font size has been increased in numerous UI panels and various elements on the HUD have been adjusted. Furthermore, the virtual keyboard is now automatically called up when selecting a text field on the Steam Deck. In addition, the "Input Auto Focus" setting has been integrated into the in-game options.
Full controller support?
But not everything that glitters is gold: The Steam Deck Verified status does not necessarily mean that Against the Storm is played like a console game. A very early version of basic controller functionality has been introduced - however, specific console game UX features are still missing in the game.
Controller layouts on the Steam Deck
A special gamepad layout has been created for the Steam Deck. However, if this layout does not meet your expectations, you can easily switch to the "Legacy" layout. To change the controller layout on the Steam Deck, just follow a few steps:
- Press the Steam button in the game.
- Select "Controller Settings" in the game panel.
- Press "Controller Configuration" below the controller layout.
- Browse through the available layouts and confirm your choice.
- The recommended layout is "Keyboard and Mouse (Legacy)"
The future of Against the Storm
The developers have already hinted that the controller support on the Steam Deck will be further improved. However, whether the game will ever have the console-like UX features mentioned above remains to be seen.
