The Return of Rome

This popular expansion of the first Age of Empires game has taken on a new form and is now available as a DLC called "Return of Rome" for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
The content of Age of Empires is now available in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. The civilizations and events of the ancient world come to AoE II: DE. Buyers can switch to "Return of Rome" in the main menu of the game and face new challenges.
What to expect in Return of Rome?
What can you expect from this new and innovative DLC?
- 3 new campaigns specifically developed for Return of Rome: Sargon of Akkad (Sumerian), Pyrrhus of Epirus (Macedonian), and Trajan (Roman). Experience more historical moments in the familiar AoE II: DE style.
- All 16 original civilizations from Age of Empires, from the Assyrians to the Yamato. Learn about the civilizations that started the Age of Empires journey.
- A new civilization, the Lac Viet. As a recognition of the enormous popularity of Rise of Rome in Vietnam, a new civilization has been added with Return of Rome.
- New D3 game mode. D3 is a tribute to a popular rule variant that is now fully integrated into the game. These rules reduce rush tactics and allow for a more robust start, with fights only possible with a single unit in the Bronze Age. Walls and towers are prohibited, which makes for exciting matchups in the later stages of the game.
- The Roman civilization is playable in the main game AoE II: DE. Find out how the Romans would fare against the Aztecs.
