Age of Empires 4 - Is the classic being revived?

Build, fight, and expand: Age of Empires 4 will be getting another sequel, one of the most well-known real-time strategy game series. The in-house studio World's Edge, which was founded by Microsoft exclusively for the development of the Age of Empires saga, wants to catapult the already popular game series to an amazing and unprecedented level with the new title.

In Age of Empires you take a trip through time, which depending on the title, can be long or short: The most popular are the ones set in the Middle Ages, but you can also travel to ancient times, the Stone Age, or with Age of Empires 3 to the years 1500 to 1860. However, the gameplay is identical in all titles. You act as the leader and ruler of a city and take care of almost everything. From the basic needs of your population, to battles and wars with hostile regions, to expanding, spreading and improving your country: All essential decisions are up to you and thus offer you the opportunity to let your strategy skills run free.

In November 2019 the trailer came out, which the entire community of Age of Empires had only dreamed of for years. In a one-minute video, World's Edge gifted their community with official scenes from the new title Age of Empire 4, causing an enormous wave of euphoria.

In collaboration with Relic Entertainment, it was decided to stick with old horses for the new installment. So, like the first part from 1997, Age of Empires 4 will take place in the Middle Ages, which pleased many players. In addition, the graphics will be completely changed and renewed, because they will shine in a comical and yet realistic style. This is supposed to combine with added details to adapt the gaming experience to the medieval world and realistically represent the past, because not only the citizens and fighters of your own city, but also small things like carts or baskets are new in Age of Empires. Overall, the gameplay of the new title simply looks more fluid, human and authentic. The citizens and fighters now move not like unit robots, but actually individually and differently.

In addition to the new features in detail, however, Age of Empires 4 also includes complete reworkings of the combat system. For example, it is now possible to place troops on the city walls or train special units that can be particularly useful in a battle with unique abilities. An example of this is the Mongolian Khan, who can send his eagle to scout other regions.

What sounds extremely interesting to many players is the adapted and modern style of the individual peoples. For example, the Mongolian regions use resources differently than the English, even though the development studio has not yet given any further details. What is certain, however, is that there will be fewer peoples than the 13 in the original game, but these peoples will act much more profound, natural and individual.

Even if the new features shown in the trailer meet the expectations of the community to a large extent, the developer has not yet given an official release date. You can probably expect Age of Empires 4 from early to mid-2021.
