In the real-time strategy game Age of Empires IV, the player takes control of a historical people. Afterwards, it is up to the player to defend themselves against all sorts of enemies by wisely managing their economy and using their troops optimally. So at the beginning of a classic game round, you build your own settlement and train troops, in order to subsequently defend your base and conquer enemy positions. Age of Empires IV is based on its predecessors but sets new graphical standards.
In the latest trailer of the game from Relic Entertainment, the Hundred Years' War has now been introduced as a new playable campaign. The Hundred Years' War took place from the 14th to the 15th century, with England and France being the main warring parties. As so often happens, it was mainly about the question of succession to the throne and the rights of vassals. A closer look at the trailer quickly makes it clear that the developers are orienting themselves closely to history. The teaser begins with a glide over English and French troops, made up of foot soldiers and lancers.
In addition, the respective army leaders ride along their troops to prepare them for the upcoming battle. Subsequently, an overlay reveals that you are accompanying Jeanne d'Arc, better known as Johanna of Orléans in this country. In her eventful life she won the trust of the French court and then led her troops into numerous wars, which you experience first-hand in the campaign. In the following scenes, the trailer makes it clear that the campaign includes the full range of war events. The scenes shown range from tactical battles on open ground to exhausting sieges, of course not without the series-typical trebuchet. At the end of the trailer, a new artwork is introduced, showing Johanna of Orléans and announcing the release for October 28, 2021. There is still no more detailed information about content or the length of the Hundred Years' War campaign.
Age of Empires IV is thus once again full of historically accurate content, which makes the course of the campaign even more interesting. With the Hundred Years' War, another conflict is added, which provides more than enough historical material to fill an exciting campaign. It will also be interesting to see how Relic Entertainment stages the story of Johanna of
