Amazon enters the video game streaming market
Even though experts assume that traditional home consoles will not disappear in the foreseeable future, streaming of video games is taking on an increasingly important role. After industry giants such as Sony (PlayStation Now), Microsoft (xCloud) or Google (Stadia) released their own streaming offers, the mail-order giant Amazon followed with the announcement of Luna.
Early access start initially only in the USA
In the official unveiling of Luna, Amazon pointed out that the cloud gaming service will be put to the test in an early access phase before its final release. Initially, however, the early access test will only take place in the USA. As it was further said, the so-called Luna Plus bundle, which allows access to games, will be available during the first tests for $5.99 per month. In the final version of Luna, however, the price is likely to rise and be oriented towards the competition.
Some of the first titles that participants in the early access program can stream via Luna include well-known games such as Control, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, GRID, The Surge 2 or A Plague Tale: Innocence. In addition, developers and publishers around the world will be able to have their own channels on Luna, on which they can offer their games and their own subscriptions.
The French company Ubisoft is starting off in this case with its own channel, which will offer titles such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Immortals: Fenyx Rising or Far Cry 6 at launch on Luna.
This internet connection is required
On Luna, games can be streamed on two devices at the same time, with Amazon deciding to start with a 1080p and 60FPS display as part of the Early Access Test. 4K resolution support will follow at a later date, according to the company.
To use Luna and enjoy a smooth gaming experience, the streaming service requires an internet connection of 10 Mbps in Full HD mode. For the later 4K mode, however, it is 35 Mbps. Amazon's announcement of its streaming service was accompanied by the unveiling of an exclusive Luna controller, which is offered in the USA for $49.99. In this country, however, 49.99 euros will probably be due for the controller.
When to expect the start of Luna in Europe is currently up in the stars.
