Assassin's Creed Mirage - Controversial graphics setting to be removed

The Decision by Ubisoft

The most controversial graphics setting of Assassin's Creed Mirage will be removed for all players of the game at the end of October 2023. Ubisoft says it has listened to the feedback and will remove the chromatic aberration from its virtual 9th century Baghdad. Whether Assassin's Creed Mirage is making a comeback or not, the open-world game is performing well for Ubisoft. Players are responding positively to the smaller scale of Mirage, but the forced visual setting of chromatic aberration is not being well-received.

Chromatic aberration is a real side effect of some camera lenses, but Ubisoft introduced it as a mandatory visual effect in Assassin's Creed Mirage. It simulates how light rays can pass through a camera lens, causing the visuals and colors at the edges of certain parts of an image to become distorted. This was implemented forcefully in the game, and I am very glad to say that it is now being removed.

The Community's Feedback

According to AC community team member 'Waldo' on the official Assassin's Creed Discord, Ubisoft is working to "take your feedback on chromatic aberration in the game into account".

"With our upcoming update, which is coming towards the end of the month, chromatic aberration will be disabled by default on all platforms, and you will have the option to enable/disable this feature in a dedicated menu."

Good news for players

So, good news. If you like the feature, you can turn it back on, but soon it will be removed from the game by default, which many of us have been requesting since the game's release.
