Baldur's Gate 3 - Lightning-fast speeds thanks to clever buff combinations

A Lightning Bolt on the Battlefield

Have you ever dreamed of being so fast in a video game that you can literally leave your opponents in the dust? A player of Baldur's Gate 3 has made this dream come true and shows us what happens when you activate all movement speed buffs at once. In less than ten seconds, his character covers an impressive 800 feet - and it looks like a leisurely stroll in the game's turn-based mode.

YouTube user Chris Reven has managed to create one of the fastest monks in the world. How did he do it? By combining as many speed buffs as possible to travel at nearly 100 miles per hour. Here's how he created the Flash of The Forgotten Realms:

The Speed Formula

First, Reven chose a Wood Elf monk, who has a movement bonus of five feet. As a monk, his character gains an additional 15 feet of movement at level six, as long as he is not wearing armor or using a shield. The Mobile ability adds another ten feet.

With the Crusher's Ring and the Longstrider buff, the monk starts each round with a total movement of 80 feet. And here's where it gets really interesting: with additional buffs during a round, Reven's monk can go eleven times faster than at the beginning. Here are the steps:

  1. Gale casts Haste on the character, which unlocks an additional action and increases speed by 30 feet (110 feet).
  2. Step of the Wind: Dash doubles the movement (220 feet).
  3. Two more Dashes double the movement again (440 feet).
  4. Click Heels from Boots of Speed doubles all of that (880 feet).

There's not really a practical use for being this fast - except maybe for the fun factor. But it's a fascinating experiment to see how far you can push Baldur's Gate 3. Reven even mentioned that it could go even faster if they had equipment with Momentum. But who wants to go through all that trouble in combat?

It's an impressive feat, and now we're wondering: how far can a nearly naked monk go, surpassing everything in the game? Is this the true speedrun in Baldur's Gate 3? We're excited for more experiments, and maybe you'll find the perfect game for your own speed experiments in our Steam Key selection.
