Battlefield 6 - What is known so far? Release, Setting and more

Battlefield 6: What is known so far? Release, Setting etc.

The last Battlefield is now over two years old. And meanwhile, the rumors about a sequel are heating up. According to current plans, Battlefield 6 is expected in 2021. The new part should not only inspire PC players: First indications suggest that the new Battlefield will also be optimized for the new console generation PS5 and Xbox Series X. Battlefield 6 would mark the 13th part in the main series of the popular shooter series.

In addition to Call of Duty, Battlefield has earned a reputation as one of the most important franchises among multiplayer shooters. Unlike Counter Strike or Rainbow Six: Siege, it is based on gigantic maps that can be played with up to 64 players. These features are also expected for the PC version of Battlefield 6 according to today's standards. There are still no official details about the setting, but first rumors point to a return to the modern scenario. This would distinguish Battlefield 6 from the immediate predecessors Battlefield 1 (2016) and Battlefield V (2018), which were set in the First World War and the Second World War - and build on titles such as Battlefield 3 (2013) and Battlefield 4 (2015). It is supposed to be a more precisely fictional scenario that is set somewhat in the future.

The first official hints on Battlefield 6 are provided by EA's indications of the possible release date: This should be in the Christmas holiday season 2021. With the first concrete information from EA on the title, however, one can expect in spring 2021. Until then, rumors about the title are circulating on the Internet. For example, one of the rumors is that the game should even exceed the 64 players. A mode with 128 players is supposed to be included and point to potential further player-related battle royal elements.

The new console generation and the ever-improving PCs offer the sequel new technical possibilities. However, it is not yet clear to what extent the destruction mechanics cultivated in the predecessors will return in Battlefield 6. Thanks to the stronger technology, one can certainly expect a high-quality audiovisual staging from DICE, which is known for its high-quality audiovisual staging.

What can be said reliably about the future Battlefield? In the first public statements, EA confirmed the development for the new console generation, which offers improved technical possibilities. The release is officially announced on October 15, 2020, in the second official EA earnings announcement for the winter season 2021. Rumors, however, are still the modern setting, which is similar to predecessors such as Battlefield 3 and 4 and is set in the near future. There is no official information on the number of players, but at least 64 players are usual for the PC version of the series. The suspected 128 players would indicate a Battle Royal version, as there was already one in Battlefield V.

The game, like the predecessors, is of course aimed at fans of strategic and action-packed shooters. This also includes the extensive online gameplay in the new Battlefield, in which up to 64 players - maybe even 128 - can compete against each other.

The tactical element is rarely neglected in Battlefield: Do you go into long-range combat or do you dare to go into the middle of the fight to secure strategic points? Battlefield thus addresses a different target group than Rainbow Six: Siege or Call of Duty. The huge maps of the series - far from the Battle Royale - are still considered a unique selling point among tactical online shooters.

The Swedish developer studio EA DICE has been responsible for the development of the Battlefield parts since the beginning. Already the first part Battlefield 1942 (2002) went back to the initiative of the studio, which then made a name for itself with the high-quality shooters of the series Battlefield. Thus, DICE developed, among other things, Battlefield 2142 (2006), Battlefield 3 (2013) and Battlefield 1 (2016). But DICE is known for more than just shooters of the Battlefield series. Thus, the northern European studio also developed Mirror's Edge (2008) and Star Wars Battlefront (2015).
