Bayonetta 3 - This is known

Since the announcement of Bayonetta 3 at the Game Awards 2017, the action-packed witch shooter has been quiet. In the meantime, there was even a rumor that the game had been completely scrapped - a rumor that developer Platinum Games denied. You can find out the release date, details about the story and more here.

Bayonetta 3 will be released in 2022

Unsettled fans and bad rumors about the development were finally clarified in September 2021 when a new gameplay trailer was shown on the Nintendo Direct. In addition to beautiful graphics and a lot of madness, there was also an approximate framework for the release: 2022!

Shortly thereafter, a Platinum Games Director Yusuke Miyata followed with an official blog post in which he confirmed that Bayonetta 3 was in the final stages of development. However, the Japanese did not want to give a final release date. Since Miyata stated in his post that they were already busy testing, one can expect a release before Christmas.

What's Bayonetta 3 about?

Bayonetta 3 is a direct sequel to the first two parts. Details about the story and combat system are not yet known. However, from the trailers it can be seen that it will be just as violent, exaggerated and above all hairy. A festive inferno for all those who love fast action.

At least as much can be said about the story that you slip into the role of the sexy witch again and beat up all kinds of angels and demons. How exactly the story continues after the paradoxical end of the second Bayonetta can only be guessed. The plot with its time travels and absurdity buttons is furthermore so opaque that the story mainly serves as the backdrop for a funny but entertaining ghost train.

Familiar faces among the developers

Although Miyata was not involved in the first two Bayonetta parts, he gained experience in action games as a game designer in Wonderful 101 and Astral Chain. But many from the old team are also involved in the development of Bayonetta 3. First and foremost Hideki Kamiya himself - the spiritual father of the series. But no longer in the role of director, but as executive producer. So the story will be just as crazy as in the predecessors.

Bayonetta 3 only on the Nintendo Switch

Even when asked and begged by the community, Platinum Games remains adamant: Bayonetta 3 will only be released for the hybrid handheld Switch. Although the predecessors were recently released for the PS4 and Xbox One in a remastered version, this will not be the case for the third part. Meanwhile, Bayonetta has become a fixed Nintendo character. For example, the black-haired witch is also playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
