The Resurrected Enigma of Betrayer - The Return of the Mysterious Horror RPG

A Dark Surprise: Betrayer Returns

Imagine strolling through the virtual game store of your choice and stumbling upon a game called Betrayer that you've never heard of before. Maybe you've seen its name mentioned in forums and Reddit conversations, as internet users talked about a mysterious, horror-infused RPG created by former developers of the FEAR series from Monolith. In 2021, Betrayer suddenly disappeared from Steam, as its creator, Blackpowder Games, seemingly ceased all activities.

And then - bam! - it reappears out of nowhere, and it's now even available for free on GOG. But what exactly is the deal with this game?

Exploring the Depths of Betrayer

Betrayer was originally released in 2014 and transports you to the New World of the 17th century. You arrive in Virginia in the year 1604, expecting to find a thriving colony - but the settlement is deserted and all the inhabitants have disappeared without a trace.

By exploring these abandoned environments in the style of an immersive simulation game, you gradually uncover clues about what happened and slowly piece together the drama that befell your fellow countrymen. There is a wonderful, eerie atmosphere in the deserted environments, and you will occasionally be confronted with supernatural powers.

The Mystery Behind Betrayer's Disappearance

After its release, it appears that the studio Blackpowder was closed down. The studio's social media channels and official website have been abandoned since 2014. Betrayer was removed from Steam in 2021.

But now it's back - and it's available for absolutely free on GOG. Why Betrayer has suddenly resurfaced remains a mystery. But hey, who's complaining about free games? Get your Betrayer key for free on GOG now!
