The latest installment of the Blood Bowl series was released to the market on February 23rd, 2023, but the launch did not go as planned. Blood Bowl 3 had to contend with several delays and game-breaking bugs, leading to a high level of dissatisfaction among players.
Currently, the game has a Mostly Negative user rating on Steam, with only 27% positive reviews.
Bugs and Monetization Criticism
The developers have promised to fix the bugs and improve the monetization in response to the players' complaints. The monetization criticism refers to the fact that players can only buy helmets and shoulder pads for individual players with in-game currency in the shop, with each item purchased or earned being able to be worn by only one player.
Improvements and New Features
The developers have announced ways to earn Warpstone and cosmetic items through gameplay, including leveling up trainers and collecting experience points for completing tasks in seasonal content that is currently not in the game. Blood Bowl 3 is planning three seasons for 2023, with each season having a Blood Pass with a free and a paid tier.
The paid version offers instant unlocks, including a new team per season that players can unlock by reaching the max level before the end of the season.
Future Developments and Speculations
The factions planned for Blood Bowl 3 are still in development, and even the nearest to completion still requires a lot of testing and validation time. Basic features such as crossplay, star player special rules, replay and spectator modes will be added in upcoming seasons.
Some players have speculated that future teams such as Wood Elves, Lizardmen and Shambling Undead are already finished and are being held back for seasonal content.
Faulty Upgrade Assignment
Players who bought the regular version were mistakenly given the Brutal Edition upgrade for free. This includes free cosmetic items for the Black Orc and Imperial Nobility teams, as well as 1,000 Warpstone.
The developers have apologized for server issues, but other issues such as the fact that basic features are listed as "improvements" in future seasons have not been addressed.
