Bungie - Bungie seeks $12 million from Destiny 2 cheat maker

Bungie, the developer of the online FPS game Destiny 2, has filed a lawsuit against a cheat maker. The cheat maker is accused of making and selling a variety of cheats for the game. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Bungie in August 2021 and is directed against Mihai Claudiu-Florentin, the operator of the VentureCheats site.

Bungie accuses Claudiu-Florentin and the operators of VentureCheats of causing the Destiny 2 community "specific and irreparable damage". In the lawsuit, Bungie is demanding approximately 12 million dollars in damages.

Combatting Cheats: Over 2 Million Dollars Spent

Bungie states that it has spent more than 2 million dollars since November 2020 combatting cheats in Destiny 2. The lawsuit mentions 5,848 instances of VentureCheats-delivered cheats in Destiny 2, but the number could not be exact.

Copyright Infringements and Legal Fees

In addition to damages, Bungie is also demanding 146,662 dollars for copyright infringements and 217,250 dollars to cover its own legal fees. Bungie is also requesting a "permanent injunction" against Claudiu-Florentin, which would prohibit him from "developing, marketing, distributing, trading, or otherwise profiting from cheat software for Destiny 2 or other Bungie games".

The incident comes at the same time as the release of the Destiny 2 Beach trailer and underscores Bungie's efforts to create a fairer gaming experience for all.
