The fifth installment of the successful Black Ops series from Activision and Treyarch, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, will be released on November 13, 2020. To give you a first impression of the multiplayer mode of the shooter in advance, alpha and beta tests have been taking place over several weeks.
While the first access was reserved for PS4 players and pre-orders, the open beta starts on October 17 for all platforms, which offers insights into various modes until October 19.
Diverse maps from the Cold War era
A total of six maps can be tested during the beta, which are set in the 1980s or in the Cold War. While the map Miami, for example, remains in the memory with its colorful neon signs and holiday atmosphere, the Moscow map shows you parts of the Russian capital at the time of the Soviet Union.
If you prefer something more open, you will enjoy the rugged landscapes of the Satellite map. But the dense jungles of Central America, which characterize the look of the Cartel map, are also part of the beta.
Prove yourself in varied game modes
The selection of game modes is also varied, so that every player type is served. With the Team Deathmatch mode, a true shooter classic awaits you in the beta, where it's simply a matter of taking out a certain number of players from the opposing team. The Domination mode should also not be surprising for fans of the series. Here the aim is to gain control of three predetermined targets on the map and thus earn points.
Combined Arms: Domination is a variation of Domination, in which 12 against 12 players compete on large maps. In the battles for the control points you can also fall back on vehicles such as tanks or gunboats here. The number of points needed to win is twice as high in Combined Arms: Domination as in the classic Domination mode.
Another 12-against-12 mode of the shooter is called Combined Arms: Assault. Here too, predetermined targets have to be occupied, but unlike in Domination, the fighting always takes place in only one zone at a time.
With VIP Escort, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War has a new game mode in which two six-player teams face each other. Each round, one player from a team is chosen as the VIP and has to reach a certain point to be safe. If the opponents manage to eliminate him, the VIP's team loses.
The also new mode Fireteam: Dirty Bomb is likely to be particularly interesting, in which 40 players fight in 10 teams for uranium to irradiate various areas of the map.
