Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - A Look at the Zombie Lore
The highly anticipated new game from Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3, could have one of the biggest zombie game modes the series has ever seen. Modern Warfare 3 is one of the most exciting FPS games, and its zombie game mode is playing with our nostalgic hearts. According to developers, Modern Warfare 3 will have the biggest zombie mode yet, offering an open world and brand new mechanics. We've also just had a first look at the zombie lore in MW3, and it seems that the story is just as massive as the gameplay.
In addition to a cinematic trailer, Zombies has just received a major update to its lore. Viktor Zakhaev, ultranationalist arms dealer and enemy of Task Force 141, discovers vials containing a glowing substance. After securing them, Zakhaev's men are quickly overrun by military police. In a moment of desperation, he throws one of the strange vials at the attackers before making his escape.
The Role of Aetherium and Zakhaev
When the vial shatters, a dense violet mist spreads and the police immediately transform into undead zombies. Zakhaev watches the effects from the safety of his armored vehicle and smiles, knowing that the substance in the vials is a weapon like no other. In Modern Warfare 3, Zakhaev seems to be responsible for the zombie outbreak.
Aetherium, the substance from the vials, is "now in a highly enriched state obtained through processing large quantities of the harvested crystalline form." The developers say that we will be "facing a greater number of undead than ever before" as we undertake "challenging and multi-stage tasks" against Zakhaev while trying to "contain the current threat before it spirals out of control."

MW3 also incorporates lore from other previous games, featuring familiar characters and references to earlier installments like Cold War. The new game mode will take us "to various regions that increase in difficulty, with core features of Zombies and a flood of secrets to discover."
