Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Season 3 Update - Everything you need to know about the new content

New weapons and operators in the third season

In the third season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, four weapons will be introduced into the game. The Battle Pass will include the iconic Intervention sniper rifle, which will be reimagined as the FJX Imperium sniper rifle, and the Cronen Squall assault rifle.

Later in the season, two new secondary weapons will be added. Activision's blog does not name them, but they are described as fully automatic weapons with very different roles. These can be unlocked either through in-game challenges or by purchasing shop bundles.

Alejandro Vargas and Valeria Garza as new Operators

Alejandro Vargas and Valeria Garza from the Modern Warfare 2 campaign can be unlocked in the premium tiers of the Battle Pass. More Operators are hinted at for later in the season and will likely be available as shop bundles.

New modes for multiplayer

The multiplayer mode will add Cranked, Gunfight, and GW Infected. Cranked is a fast-paced mode where players must string together kills to reset a timer and avoid exploding, while Gunfight represents chaotic 2v2 matches on small maps in quick rounds.

GW Infected is planned for later in the season and will bring Call of Duty's Infected multiplayer mode to the larger Ground War maps.

Gunfight: OSP variant

Later in the season, Gunfight will also receive the Gunfight: OSP variant, where players must pick up their weapons and equipment from the ground instead of receiving a standard loadout each round.

Multiplayer maps in season three

Several maps will be added in season three, including three core maps, a 6v6 map for night vision goggles, two large-scale Ground War maps, and four small arenas for Gunfight.

6v6 maps

Among the standard 6v6 maps is the recently revealed Pelayo's Lighthouse map, a stormy night map with a lighthouse. The Black Gold map is designed for night vision goggles and brings back the NVG multiplayer feature from Modern Warfare 2019. The setting of Black Gold is at the Rohan Oil Point of Interest in Al Mazrah and will be included at launch.

Later in the season, the Alboran Hatchery will be added as a standard 6v6 map. This map had no description, and another unnamed core map was also hinted at for the midseason update.

Ground War maps

Both Ground War maps will be available at launch. Rohan Oil will be added as a large-scale Ground War map, also utilizing the Rohan Oil location of Al Mazrah. Additionally, Sattiq Cave Complex is the second map to use the Sattiq Cave Complex of Al Mazrah for its environment.

Gunfight maps

For the Gunfight maps, they are mostly familiar locations tailored to a smaller 2v2 arena size for Gunfight. The four maps in rotation for season three are: Shipment, Exhibit, Alley, and Blacksite, which is also the new Gulag for Warzone 2 in season three.

New co-op content in season three

A new season means a new Raid episode. These three-player episodic Raids continue the story of Modern Warfare 2 with a mix of stealth, action, and puzzle-solving objectives. Episode 3 will only be released later in the season, but Episode 1: Atomgrad and Episode 2 are still available for those looking to catch up and unlock the Operator skin rewards.

A new Special Ops mission is also announced for the midseason update. Players will be pitted against the Las Almas Cartel, which is located somewhere in Al Mazrah.

More Prestige levels and seasonal challenges

In addition, a new season of Modern Warfare 2 means more new Prestige levels, more seasonal challenges, weapon balancing, and bug fixes. Ranked Play will also receive a new season of cosmetic rewards to earn.
