Welcome back to Night City, Choom!
Finally, the free 2.0 update for Cyberpunk 2077 is here, bringing a ton of new content and improvements. From a revamp of many gameplay mechanics and core features like the police system and perk trees, to various fixes and optimizations - the update has a lot to offer.
What's new?
You can, of course, continue playing from your existing save file, but to fully experience the extensive changes, we recommend starting a new playthrough. And hey, who wouldn't want to dive fresh into the seedy streets of Night City again? If you own the "Phantom Liberty" DLC, you can even jump straight into the expansion starting from September 26th.
Mods, System Requirements & Co.: What You Need to Know
Attention, Choom: Since the changes to core game systems are extensive, we strongly recommend uninstalling mods prior to version 2.0 until the modding community can update them. You wouldn't want outdated mods to disrupt your gaming experience and potentially cause critical errors in certain situations, would you?
And here's another important piece of information: The PC system requirements change that was announced in June will take effect with this update. It is particularly important to note that playing the game on an SSD is now a requirement. So, make sure you're not playing on an HDD or (for the lucky ones among us) on a Steam Deck.
Changes in Detail: What to Expect in Update 2.0?
The complete list of changes would be too long (and probably a bit boring) to include them all. Therefore, we have summarized the most exciting updates for you:
Combat
- New Police System: If you commit a crime, you will now be hunted by the NCPD, whether on foot or in a vehicle.
- Vehicle Combat: You can now engage in combat while driving a vehicle. Pistols, submachine guns, and health items can be used while driving.
- Combat AI Improvements: The enemy AI has been improved, including reactions to grenades and enhanced use of netrunning.
Abilities & Effects
- Perk Tree Overhaul: The perk trees have been completely redesigned, with fewer perks that have a greater impact on gameplay.
Cyberware, Weapons & Vehicles
- Cyberware: Your armor is now primarily provided by cyberware. Clothing mainly serves cosmetic purposes.
- Weapons: Iconic weapons now have unique effects that better reflect their special features.
- Vehicles & Traffic: NPC vehicles can now change lanes, and pedestrians try to avoid collisions. Safety first!
Other: Arcade Minigame & More Secrets in Night City
In addition to the general polish of Cyberpunk 2077, there are also some little treats: a new arcade minigame called "Trauma Drama" and more secrets to be discovered in Night City. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your Cyberpunk 2077 key and dive into Night City!
