The Return of the Crusader
Red Hook Studios has unveiled the first paid DLC pack for Darkest Dungeon 2: The Binding Blade. It should not be confused with the Fire Emblem game. The DLC will be released in December and will add two new playable characters: the brand new Duelist and the long-awaited return of the Crusader from Darkest Dungeon 1.
I was surprised that we didn't get the Crusader among the early-accessible characters of Darkest Dungeon 2. He was a particularly strong and versatile option for any group, filling the niche of the D&D Paladin as a tank, damage dealer, and healer/supporter.
The Abilities of the Crusader
In addition, I always saw him as a bit of a mascot for the game alongside the Highwayman. The version of the Crusader in Darkest Dungeon 2 seems to largely correspond to his original set of abilities, at least according to the promotional material from The Binding Blade:
"This battle-hardened knight is driven by a radiant holy fire and will strike his enemies where they stand. The Crusader is a well-rounded front-line hero who can withstand heavy blows, support his team with healing and stress relief, and tear his foes apart with his righteous sword."
The Duelist: A New Challenger Emerges
But the Crusader will not be alone in The Binding Blade: the DLC also introduces the Duelist, a classic fencer with a cloak and rapier. The character concept certainly lends itself to high damage, and the Duelist has the ability to ignore enemy resistance, but the new character also seems to have some unique support functions, such as negating cooldowns of allies.
Additional Content in The Binding Blade
The Binding Blade will also introduce a new roaming miniboss and playable backstories for the new characters. The price for the package has not been determined yet, but it is already available for wishlisting on Steam and Epic. So if you're looking forward to exploring the dungeons with the Crusader and the Duelist, don't hesitate to add Darkest Dungeon 2 to your wishlist!
