Deep Rock Galactic Rogue Core - A New Adventure for Dwarf Miners
"Deep Rock Galactic Rogue Core," the popular co-op game for up to four players, is back and brings the dwarf FPS mining game in a roguelike format for fans of rock and stone. It is a standalone game that introduces a "roguelite twist" to the gameplay. Inspired by the best roguelike games, you no longer bring increasingly stacked equipment loadouts with you on each subsequent mission as you progress. Instead, you start each mission with basic equipment and build up your powers and abilities.
The Story Behind Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core
The trouble begins when the mining company Deep Rock Galactic sets up covert operations deep in Hoxxes IV to search for an incredibly useful new mineral called "Expenite." Soon, its excavation sites have gone dark, and all contact has been lost. You and your team are the Reclaimers, an elite crew sent to bring the sites back online, figure out what is causing the "Greyout," and prevent further issues.
The Gameplay of Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core
In a mission in Rogue Core, you'll grab a Phase Suit with an active ability of your choice, along with one of the unique Reclaimer weapons. Once you land, you'll make your way through the Greyout Barrier - a one-way entry point. As the game progresses, salvaged DRG equipment and weapons can be shared between your crew, while uncovering Expenite deposits allows you to unlock potent temporary upgrades.
The deeper you dig, the more powerful you become - but the exploration becomes more dangerous. Ultimately, your goal is to reclaim the excavation site at the core. In between missions, you'll unlock new Reclaimer weapons, Phase Suits, and Suit Mods that can appear in future runs.
Release and Early Access
Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core is not yet ready for launch, although Ghost Ship Games plans an extensive early access phase. Once closer to release, there will be opportunities for closed alpha testing before the game properly launches on Steam Early Access. Once it's there, you can purchase a copy and join in at a reduced price "to reflect its unfinished state," similar to the original Deep Rock Galactic. Ghost Ship says it expects this early access period to last "18 to 24 months," so don't expect the full game to hit the market in the next few years.
Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core is set to launch on Steam Early Access. There is currently no release date, and the team at Ghost Ship Games emphasizes that it is still "early" but committed to an "open development process" - you can track its progress and wishlist it on Steam if you're curious to join in.
