Diablo IV reaches significant milestone

In today's world of live-service games and day-one patches, "Going Gold" doesn't hold the same weight it used to. However, it's still a small milestone that Blizzard has now achieved for Diablo IV.

"Going Gold" – a concrete step towards release

"Going Gold is a significant milestone for the incredible Diablo IV team that has worked hard on the next generation of this iconic franchise," said Diablo General Manager Rod Fergusson. "This is a concrete, meaningful step towards our launch on June 6th."

"Whether players are veterans of the series or jumping in for the first time, we can't wait for everyone to experience the full game: participating in the incredible narrative, experimenting with character classes and builds, and exploring the endgame and dark world of Sanctuary."

What does "Going Gold" mean?

"Gone Gold" refers to the good old days of physical media and essentially means that the developers have completed a release version of the game: it is as complete and bug-free as possible and is now being packaged into boxes and shipped to stores.

In a live-service world, however, game development never really ends. Nevertheless, developers have to set a "ship date" at some point, which is why we still have "Gone Gold" announcements like this. And it's quite important, as it means that the wait is almost over: what's done is done and can't be undone - except through post-release patches.

Diablo IV 4 to release 100% on June 6th

But the point, as Fergusson hinted, is that we no longer have to worry about last-minute delays due to unexpected issues during open beta testing: Diablo IV 4 will release 100% on June 6th. If you participated in the beta, here's a brief summary of the changes you can expect in the full version.

Changes since the beta

  1. Balance adjustments to character classes and abilities
  2. Revision of some quests and level designs
  3. Optimization of the user interface and HUD
  4. Improvements to performance and stability
  5. Bug fixes that occurred during the beta phase

In short, Diablo IV 4 is ready to thrill its fans and take new players on a journey to the dark world of Sanctuary. We can't wait to explore the latest installment of this legendary series with you!
