Diablo IV 4 - Living Steel Drops & Chest Issues Resolved

The new Diablo 4 hotfix

If you've been struggling to farm Living Steel in Diablo 4, you'll be glad to hear that a newly introduced hotfix is here to solve your problems.

Diablo 4 Living Steel has recently become the hottest commodity in Sanctuary. They are an essential component for summoning the new endgame boss, Grigoire the Galvanic Saint, and in return, Uber Duriel. They are only available during the limited-time Helltide events and even then, quite rare. In response to player feedback, Blizzard has now unveiled a new Diablo 4 hotfix that increases their drop rates and fixes issues with chest phasing.

More Living Steel Drops

The main issue with the original version of Diablo 4 Living Steel Drops was simply that there weren't enough of them. Considering that the RPG game's Helltide events only occur every two and a quarter hours and you need 300 Aberrant Cinders to open the chests, it was difficult to obtain enough Living Steel.

And as I mentioned before, you need two Living Steel to summon Grigoire at World Tier 3 and five at World Tier 4. But more importantly, you need two Shards of Agony from Grigoire to summon Uber Duriel. As you can imagine, this requires a lot of grinding - especially when some players have also reported issues with phasing and bugging of the Tortured Gifts of Living Steel chests when opening them.

Improvements to the Chests

As a result, Blizzard promised a hotfix, and they delivered. On World Tier 3, the drop rates were increased from one Living Steel to two, with a chance for one or two additional drops. On World Tier 4, it was increased from three to five, with a chance for five drops. All other Helltide chests will now also drop one Living Steel at World Tier 4.

In addition, the issue with phasing of the Living Steel chests when opening them has been fixed. Blizzard notes, "Part of this solution was to remove the guardian monsters of the Living Steel chest. This improves the functionality of the chest for now, but we do want to bring the guardian back once we can ensure that the interaction doesn't cause this problem."

In my opinion, this is exactly what we needed. It preserves the integrity of Grigoire as a boss, as you still have to defeat him to claim Shards of Agony. It means that the endgame, Uber Duriel, remains a challenge, but overall grinding is made easier.
