The DOOM series is probably one of the classics of first-person shooters and has been since the release of the first title in 1993. DOOM Eternal will finally be released in 2020 after more than three years. The release date was recently corrected by id Software. The reason for this is, according to the developer, the fine-tuning of the game, which will take a little more time than originally planned. The new release date for DOOM Eternal is Sunday, March 22, 2020.
To shorten the time until then, we have searched for the latest news and information about DOOM Eternal.
For which platforms is DOOM Eternal released?
The first-person shooter will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch version will be released later than the other versions. But an exact date has not yet been announced and will be released by the end of 2019.
The invasion mode comes later
There is another piece of bad news about the invasion mode in DOOM Eternal. This is not supposed to be playable at release as originally planned, but will be released later with a free update. In this mode you hunt other players and show everyone who the best DOOM Slayer is.
Where does DOOM Eternal take place?
The latest installment takes you back to Earth, reminiscent of DOOM II: Hell On Earth. The Earth is overrun by hordes of demons that want to destroy all life. Only the DOOM Slayer can stop the demons and send the creatures back to hell. There will also be excursions to a space station located on the Phobos moon. Since this information has only been taken from images and videos, we have not been able to find any further information here.
Revised damage model
The Glory Kills, which were already very popular in DOOM (2016), also return in DOOM Eternal. At the same time, id Software has also announced that there will be destructible demons. This means that there will be an optical damage model that not only shows the health status of the demons, but also where you hit them. This way you can send the residents of the underworld even faster.
Weapon upgrades in DOOM Eternal
The well-known Preator Suit, which the DOOM Slayer wears, gets some changes and upgrades. The suit now has a retractable blade on the left arm that can halve demons. In addition, the shotgun has been upgraded to include a meat hook. With this meat hook you can shoot at demons and pull yourself towards them. But this only works with demons and not with walls or ceilings as is possible in Just Cause 4, for example.
In addition to the upgrades, there are also some new weapons that make killing even more fun.
- The Ballista is a laser launcher that fires explosive grenades and shatters the demons on impact.
- The Heavy Cannon is a combination of a machine gun and a sniper rifle.
- The flamethrower does exactly what the name suggests - it throws flames.
- The sword has only been seen in a gameplay trailer and id Software has not yet given any further information about it. But we think that in addition to chopping and dividing, there is not much else you can
New old enemies
In order to be able to use the new weapons enough, of course, new opponents are also needed. id Software not only came up with new ideas, but rather brought back the good old opponents from the old titles of the DOOM series. You can look forward to the Pain Elemental, Arachnotrons, Marauder and the legendary Doomhunter.
- The Pain Elemental is a monster that comes in a total of three versions and was first seen in DOOM II. When attacking, it does not spawn lost souls, but only when it dies. The weakness of the Pain Elementals are attacks by tamed Hellhounds.
- The Arachnotrons are a mixture of a robot spider and a monster. They were first seen in DOOM II and resemble the Spierdemons very much, but are one number smaller. The Arachnotrons are armed with two powerful plasma guns that fire bursts of yellow and green plasma.
- The Marauders are demonic opponents who will appear for the first time in DOOM Eternal. Apart from a concept drawing, there is not much more information about the opponent yet. He resembles the DOOM Slayer slightly and id Software says there is also a connection between the Marauder and the DOOM Slayer.
- The Doomhunter is a new opponent who will be seen for the first time in DOOM Eternal. He is a demon from the realm of terror and the last of his kind. The kind is actually called Agardon Hunter and after the unholy crusade only one of his kind has survived. This last Doomhunter is specially equipped for the hunt for the Doom Slayer and will make your life difficult.
Online Players as Demons
There's a whole new type of opponent in the form of other DOOM Eternal players. The developer id Software has announced that you can join the game as a demon from other players. This is supposed to be the ultimate challenge, which you can activate or deactivate for your own game. We are definitely looking forward to the implementation of this new co-op mode for DOOM Eternal.
New Game, New Engine
There are also new features for DOOM Eternal's engine, as the newer id Tech 7 is used instead of the id Tech 6. According to id Software, the revised engine allows for significantly more details and complex level designs without sacrificing performance. We think the game will reach 60 FPS for the console version and the PC version will appear without any restriction as usual.
DLC's for DOOM Eternal
For DOOM Eternal's single player, id Software promises to release some DLCs in the course of 2020. As soon as we receive more specific information from the developer, we will pass it on to you.
Pre-order bonus for DOOM Eternal
For all pre-orders of DOOM Eternal there is a very special bonus that would not have existed without the postponed release date. Because the addition is called DOOM 64 and was actually supposed to be a Nintendo Switch exclusive game. The remake of the Nintendo 64 classic, which was released in 1997, is now also coming to PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
But the game will not be available for download until DOOM Eternal is released. We hope that id Software will reconsider and release the game before. This makes it much easier to bridge the waiting time and you can already warm up.
