Dragon Age: Dreadwolf - Everything we know so far

The fourth part of the Dragon Age series is called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and will be released sometime between 2023 and 2024.

BioWare released the first CGI trailer for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf at the end of 2020. In this, however, there was not much to see other than the CGI images.
The official name of the title was presented in June 2022. In the course of this, EA has repeatedly indicated that the game will not be released before the end of the 2022 fiscal year.

A release in 2023 is currently expected. According to Jeff Grubb, an industry insider, one should not take this too literally. A release in 2023 would be conceivable, but 2024 would also be realistic.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Platforms

We assume that only the current generation of consoles will be considered here. So on Steam for PC and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The insider Jeff Grubb also discovered an interesting thing here. So one of the former BioWare employees has listed the development of the game for next-gen platforms in his LinkedIn profile as a former activity.

Whether Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will also be released for Nintendo is still unclear. If so, there would either have to be a much more powerful console or the Nintendo port would have to be greatly reduced.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Story

In a recent community update, BioWare explained that Dreadwolf will continue the story of the predecessors. So it won't be a complete restart, but new players should also be able to get a good start. We therefore expect the story to be significantly expanded and any prior knowledge from the other titles to be refreshed. Given that Dragon Age: Inquisition was released almost 8 years ago, this also makes sense for players of the predecessors.

In our opinion, the CGI trailer makes it clear that a new protagonist will take the lead in Dreadwolf. However, old acquaintances were also seen in the trailer. So the gruff dwarf Varric Tethras from Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition will be back again.

Solas, the terror wolf, will also play an important role in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Solas is already known from Dragon Age: Inquisition. There he was first a helpful companion, until he turned out to be a villain straight out of the picture book.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Schauplatz

We speculate that Tevinter will be the next setting for Dragon Age. A strong indicator for this has been the last DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisition. This was also supported by some leaks.

This is also supported by a section from the book "BioWare Stories and secrets from 25 years of game development". On one page, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf or Morrison is mentioned and Tevinter is named as the location. This can be seen in a Tweet by Tom Phillips.

A tweet from BioWare's Christian Dailey also showed new artwork from Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Gameplay

There is currently the least amount of information, or rather no information at all, about the gameplay. It remains to be seen whether it will be a more tactical gaming experience like in Dragon Age: Origins or a slightly more action-packed one like in Dragon Age 2.

Of course, there is also the possibility that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will take a middle ground, as was the case in Inquisition.
