Elden Ring - The open world will be huge but different

Elden Ring is the next big project from the publisher FromSoftware in collaboration with the fantasy author George R. R. Martin. Similar to Dark Souls or Bloodborne, players will be drawn into a mystical game world full of dangers and tough boss battles. This time, however, special attention is also paid to the open world, which is said to be different from anything seen before in a game.

Reaching new heights

As could already be guessed from a few trailers and teasers, the game world of Elden Ring will be widely diversified again. This time there will even be such large areas that the developers are giving the players a mount to get from one point to the next a little faster.

However, the open world will become larger in a second way. Unlike, for example, in Dark Souls or Sekiro, the players will have to come to higher areas much more often this time to find the next boss. For this purpose, special platforms are provided at various points, with which the player and his mount can catapult themselves up a mountain or particularly high plants.

Dynamic changes

Another innovation will be the dynamics that the game world has to offer. This includes, for example, a change of day and night. In one moment the players can stand in the glaring sunlight and in the next moment be enveloped in deep darkness. The time of day also affects some opponents and changes their behavior or strength. So there are dangers that strike more at night, while other opponents prefer to fight during the day.

Apart from that, there will also be opponents and creatures in the open world that are on their own journey independent of the actions of the player. From the trailers for Elden Ring, a giant turtle is already known, which transports a bell tower on its back. This turtle relentlessly draws its rounds through the game world and can therefore be found at completely different locations. If you wait long enough, she might even come right past you.

Dreamy background music

A big difference to other games by FromSoftware is that this time a soft background music can be heard while the players are walking through the open world. In this way, the long distances should be made a little more bearable
