Embark on new adventures with Eve Vanguard
Virtual space adventure enthusiasts, buckle up! CCP Games is taking the EVE Online universe to a whole new level with the introduction of the brand-new standalone FPS game Eve Vanguard. While we have previously been exploring distant galaxies in spaceships, now we are in for a completely new experience.
The announcement of Eve Vanguard came as a surprise at the Eve Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland. The game has been developed using the Unreal Engine 5 and allows us, for the first time, to take on the role of the so-called Vanguards. Vanguards are fresh war clones sent on special missions by various factions in EVE Online. Sounds exciting? It definitely is!
What to Expect in Eve Vanguard?
In an exclusive gameplay premiere of Eve Vanguard, showcased at Eve Fanfest, we got a first look at the new adventure. We see a Vanguard player landing on a barren planet with the mission to steal a Nexus chip from some Gurista pirates. But beware! Dangers lurk everywhere - be it massive acidic swamps or hostile troops trying to get in our way.
But don't worry: Eve Vanguard is not just another shooter in the gaming universe. Scott Davis, lead product designer of Eve Vanguard, emphasizes that the game is intended as a module for EVE Online. While it can be played as a standalone experience - so you don't have to be an EVE Online veteran to join in - it is designed to provide a fully fleshed-out EVE experience.
You can play Vanguard alone or with a squad and explore planets to strengthen your equipment and thus your clone. This opens up many new possibilities: you can transition from resource gathering to combat with rival squads over a target. Through your decisions and battles in Eve Vanguard, you can even influence the main game, EVE Online.
The Future of Eve Vanguard
CCP Games also has big plans for the future and places great value on player feedback. "We have the foundations of what needs to be done in this game to actually make it work. And it does work," explains game director Snorri Árnason. And even if you're unsure about trying out Vanguard, he has some important advice: "Stay tuned for the development."
Starting from December 2023, all EVE Online players with an Omega subscription will be able to participate in the First Strike Mass Test of Vanguard for a limited time, free of charge.
