Factorio - Sci-Fi economic simulation by Wube Software

The isometric economic simulation Factorio is an indie project developed by the Czech studio Wube Software. Factorio allows players to build and optimize a virtual factory. The protagonist is stranded on a foreign planet and must build a rocket to escape the alien environment. This requires collecting resources, discovering technologies, expanding the factory, and perfecting supply chains. Factorio has developed over the years from an unassuming indie title to a hit with over 2,000,000 sold copies. Multiplayer mode and mod support complement the extensive single player.

A lot has happened with Factorio in 2020

The full version 1.0.0 was released on August 14, 2020. After about eight years of development, Wube Software presented the full version of Factorio. At that time, the game was already in development in 2012, and the first alpha version was released in 2013. In 2016, Factorio entered the four-year Early Access phase on Steam. Even during this development phase, Factorio established itself as a hit among complex construction games: So at the beginning of 2016, 300,000 players already owned the game, and in May 2017, the groundbreaking millionth copy of Factorio was sold. The idea for Factorio comes from Michal Kovařík, who originally developed the title alone. But already in the first year of development (2012), programmer Tomas Kozelek and animator Albert Bertolin joined the team. The release of the full version was originally planned for September 25, 2020, but with the release on August 14, Factorio was released five weeks before the planned date. The full version 1.0.0 brought some new features to the game. These included revised graphics and effects for water and explosions, the new endgame vehicle Spidertron, sound optimizations, and new modding options. But the developers made it clear before the release of the full version that the release of the 1.0.0 patch of Factorio is not the end of development. So a patch 1.1 with various bugfixes, a revised GUI and optimizations of the Spidertron was announced. Today Factorio is optimized for Windows, macOS and Linux - and offers players with various PC systems a fundamental and fine-tuned economic simulation experience.

Target Group

Factorio is aimed at the target group of construction game players who want a complex simulation. The game combines futuristic science fiction elements with central gameplay mechanisms of economic construction simulation. However, unlike classic economic simulations, Factorio deals with the more abstract technologies and supply chains of a virtual factory. But even those who can't do anything with this topic should give Factorio a chance: The optimization of one's own factory leads to a special game feeling that has already lured millions of players into buying.

Wube Software

The Czech studio Wube Software was opened two years after the development of Factorio began. The developers Michal Kovařík and Tomáš Kozelek established the studio in Prague in 2014. Factorio is the debut work of the Eastern European developer forge, which has not yet released any other software. Wube Software has also announced support and development of new content for Factorio in the future.
