The Far Cry series dates back to 2004. Since then, five games have been released from the Far Cry universe, with the sixth to be released in October 2021. With the franchise, Ubisoft managed to create a modern classic, which is defined by its open world and intense battles, as well as an exotic setting. However, even though the release of the sixth is still pending and eagerly awaited, there are already rumors about the seventh.
This is where Jason Schreier, who works for Bloomberg, caused a stir in a podcast called "Triple Click". When it came to Ubisoft's Far Cry series, Schreier also talked about the company's future plans. The seventh part is supposed to go in a "fundamentally different direction". However, the insider was only able to give away more or less vague details and emphasized that he had only heard these rumors and hoped to remember them correctly. However, despite these vague statements, the rumors could be true. In the past, Schreier has caused a sensation in the gaming industry with precise predictions. In addition, fans have been criticizing Ubisoft's lack of innovation for some time, which has been sticking to the series' success formula since Far Cry 3, for example by introducing a new villain to fight with each new release. For the latest entry, the actor Giancarlo Esposito, known from Breaking Bad, was even won, who appears in the game under the name Anton Castillo as the antagonist. How the new beginning could look like remains open. On the one hand, a departure from the first-person shooter action gameplay and towards more role-playing elements is conceivable. Alternatively, a restriction of the open world is also possible, although this is a trademark of Far Cry.
In total, it remains to be seen whether Jason Schreier's rumor about the "fundamentally different direction" will hold true. What is certain, however, is that the Far Cry series has been standing still for more than a decade and that new features could contribute to winning new players over to the series.
Accordingly, it is also possible that Far Cry 7 will address a different target group. So far, Ubisoft's title is mainly aimed at fans of single-player titles who like to explore large game worlds and creatively fight their opponents with firearms in
