Exciting news for all football enthusiasts on PS5 and Xbox: The FC 24 Team of the Year (TOTY) has finally been revealed, and the lineup for this year's football series is both impressive and predictable.
EA unveils the fan favorites
EA has revealed the secret of the fan-voted FC 24 TOTY. For the first time in the history of the popular football series, both men's and women's teams have been included in the promotion, resulting in a total of 22 top cards for Xbox and PlayStation players to collect.
As expected, FC 24 has become one of the biggest and best sports games of the year. In every annual cycle of EA FC (formerly FIFA), the Team of the Year is often the most popular (and lucrative from EA's perspective) promotion.
Revealed via Twitter, the men's Team of the Year consists of:
- Alisson (95)
- Jeremie Frimpong (94)
- Rúben Dias (95)
- Virgil van Dijk (96)
- Theo Hernández (94)
- Rodri (95)
- Kevin De Bruyne (96)
- Jude Bellingham (96)
- Lionel Messi (97)
- Erling Haaland (97)
- Kylian Mbappé (97)
The women's team consists of:
- Mary Earps (94)
- Ona Batlle (95)
- Wendie Renard (95)
- Millie Bright (94)
- Sakina Karchaoui (95)
- Aitana Bonmatí (97)
- Alexia Putellas (96)
- Lena Oberdorf (95)
- Caroling Graham Hansen (97)
- Sophia Smith (95)
- Sam Kerr (96)
Surprising top choices
The most voted players for each team are somewhat surprising. According to the accompanying press release, Alexia Putellas from Barcelona Femení received 84% of the women's votes, despite having to pause the majority of the season due to an ACL injury. Erling Haaland, despite his status as EA's marketing golden boy, appeared in fewer teams than wonderkid Jude Bellingham. Bellingham undoubtedly deserves to be represented in 74% of the submitted teams.
Predictable but impressive lineups
The lineups feature familiar names as expected. Haaland, Rúben Dias, Rodri, and Kevin De Bruyne were all stars in Manchester City's treble-winning season. Kylian Mbappé continued his impressive performances even without the 2022 World Cup medal. Lionel Messi confirmed his status as the GOAT in the tournament, although his rating of 97 may seem a bit high.
For the women, it's great to see Mary Earps, the Golden Glove winner at the Women's World Cup, being recognized for her phenomenal performance in the tournament. The same goes for Sam Kerr, who shone for the Matildas after winning the Women's Super League with Chelsea. As with City's formidable men's quartet, the inclusion of Barcelona Femení's quartet was expected after winning their own treble.
What's next?
With the FC 24 TOTY lineups now set – except for the 12th player who will be added to the promotion later – it's only a matter of time before we are overwhelmed by teams with multiple blue cards in Division Rivals. At least if you're playing on Xbox, you can earn additional Microsoft Rewards points in the coming weeks when playing against Wallet Warriors.
