Floodland - This city-building simulation struggles with the consequences of climate change

The Polish indie studio Vile Monarch has dedicated itself to a polarizing topic with Floodland. A post-apocalyptic city-building game that takes place after a natural disaster caused by climate change. And as the name suggests, this disaster is a worldwide flood that has covered almost everything with water.

The water and the resources

In Floodland, the player is often forced to make a compromise. So it is up to the player to weigh up whether to take in any survivors they find or leave them to their fate. Because the resources are scarce and so one has to choose between the downfall of some or the downfall of their entire population.

But decisions about the general leadership style of their colony can also lead to conflicts. These are not only of a moral nature, but also the population itself has needs and requirements. So it is to the displeasure of some to regulate water consumption or to introduce certain recycling processes for resources.

From November 15th it's time for Floodland on Steam. There is currently no planned release for consoles.
