Fortnite and the Skin Age Ratings
We all know Fortnite, the iconic battle royale game by Epic Games. Recently, Epic attempted to introduce age ratings for skins and creative islands in the game. Unfortunately, this introduction did not quite have the desired effect, as Epic themselves admit.
The idea behind it was to help players and parents make informed decisions about which parts of the game young players can experience. However, the implementation has resulted in a multitude of premium outfits becoming unplayable in certain player experiences.
What went wrong?
Last week, age ratings were introduced, with the intention of assigning a corresponding rating to each individual island and selected cosmetic items. However, what has happened is that many skins, for which players have paid, are now not wearable in certain parts of the game. For example, if you purchase or unlock a Fortnite skin with an age-restricted element and then go to an island or a game for all, that skin will not be available in the game mode - even if you paid for it.
A solution from Epic
Naturally, this has led to some frustration within the community. However, Epic has already responded and announced that they are working on new options. These are expected to be ready in time for a major in-game event, which will most likely kick off Chapter 5. So keep your eyes open - we'll keep you updated!
Future prospects
It remains to be seen exactly what changes Epic will make. But one thing is clear: they have recognized the problem and are working on a solution. In the meantime, we can look forward to the next big event and hope that the age ratings for skins will no longer be a problem by then.

Final thoughts
