A Sailing Adventure through Stormy Waters
It has been just over five years since Sea of Thieves set sail. Since then, the development team at Rare has been committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and fair gaming environment. This includes their tireless efforts to combat cheating and toxic behavior.
Cheating and Hacking on the High Seas
In recent months, there have been an increasing number of reports of cheating attempts in the game. In response, Rare has intensified its efforts in this area. With a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of in-game hacking or cheating, the team has banned over 7,000 accounts in the past 12 months, thanks to player reports.

A Flood of Bans
In addition to player reports, Rare's security team has independently permanently banned another 8,000 accounts. These were identified through internal anti-cheat measures. The team also continues to work on detecting and blocking newly emerging cheats.
Tough Measures Against Toxic Behavior
Rare places great importance on respectful behavior within the community and takes reports of toxic in-game behavior very seriously. In the past 12 months alone, over 8,500 suspensions have been issued for accounts that displayed negative behavior.
Moderation in Detail
The moderation team regularly checks pet and ship names that do not comply with community standards. To simplify this process, an in-game reporting feature has been added, allowing players to report gamertags or names.
Sailing Together Towards a Better Future
Despite the challenges, Rare remains committed to combating fraud and toxic behavior. The integrity of the game always comes first. And for that, we say thank you to the overwhelming majority of fair players in our community!
Until the next adventure on the high seas in Sea of Thieves!
