Game Freak, the developer studio known for the Pokémon games, wants to develop more than just Pokémon games in the future. Masao Taya, the director of the studio's latest game, Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On, emphasized in an interview that it is important to release titles outside of the Pokémon series.
The studio has also been experimenting with a new development style lately, where it works with external studios. These collaborations are necessary to cover the growing resource needs in game development. Pocket Card Jockey, the studio's latest game, is a virtual horse racing game mixed with solitaire. The game was recently released for the Apple Arcade subscription service and was developed in collaboration with the studios Infiniteloop Co. and Pixyda.
Pocket Card Jockey was originally released a decade ago for the Nintendo 3DS and was updated for release on Apple Arcade. Taya had the idea for the game when he stumbled upon a solitaire version on his iPhone. The studio plans to continue to tweak Ride On and release updates, but has not yet announced any new games.
