Game Streaming Industry Experiences Dips in 2022

The year 2022 was not an easy one for the game streaming industry. The amount of hours spent on game streams has decreased compared to the previous year. This trend is especially true for Facebook Gaming, whose viewership has dropped over half (54%).

Twitch and YouTube Gaming have also experienced a decline, but compared to Facebook Gaming it was smaller (6% and 9% respectively). Twitch has seen a drop in unique channels from 24.4 million in 2021 to 22.4 million in 2022. YouTube Gaming has seen a 9% decrease in viewer hours, but it still reports 4.5 billion hours of gaming live streams.

Facebook Gaming has experienced a sharp decline in viewer hours after it shut down its own gaming app. This has led to a decrease in unique channels (74%) from 2.17 million in 2021 to 559,000 by the end of the year.

Still Plenty of Potential

This has also had a negative effect on the most streamed games of the year, causing two big titles to fall out of the top 10 streamed games for 2022. It should be noted however that the industry remains strong and still has plenty of potential for growth and development.

In conclusion, the game streaming industry in 2022 faced some challenges but remains an important and growing sector in the gaming world.
