In an official statement on the Nvidia website, the end of GameStream was announced. The service will be removed with an update from mid-February 2023. Up to this update, users of the Nvidia Shield can still use the service.
What is the alternative to GameStream?
As an alternative to GameStream, the owners of the Nvidia Shield have the Steam Link App available. This can stream games from the PC to the Shield. Steam Link supports 4K streaming and allows streaming to many other devices such as PCs, smartphones and tablets.
The Nvidia GeForce NOW App can also still be used to stream PC games from the cloud to the Nvidia Shield.
Do you have to make the update?
In principle, there is no compulsion to update and the GameStream App can still work for some time. However, since, for example, GeForce NOW will only work again after the update and there is a corresponding alternative to GameStream, the update should be carried out promptly.
How do you install Steam Link on the Nvidia Shield?
In order to use Steam Link on the Nvidia Shield, you first need to have Steam installed on the gaming PC. Afterwards you can install the Steam Link App on the Nvidia Shield and follow the instructions of the App.
