Graphics Card Prices - Doubled in Germany since 2020

According to an analysis by Mindfactory.de, average prices for graphics cards in Germany have doubled since 2020. In February 2020, the average price for AMD cards was just over 295 €, while Nvidia GPUs were sold for an average of 427 €. By 2022, the average price for AMD cards has risen to 600 €, while Nvidia GPUs are being sold on average for 825 €.

All graphics cards, including the latest Nvidia RTX 40 series and AMD's new RX 7900 boards, are included in these figures. These price increases are not surprising, as the announced prices for graphics cards have been rising in recent years. It is hard to imagine a sustained average price of almost 900 US dollars for Nvidia GPUs being viable for the PC gaming market.

Prices for other gaming hardware remain stable

It is however interesting to note that prices for other gaming-relevant hardware such as CPUs and gaming monitors have stayed within historical norms. It is expected that this price increase for graphics cards will ultimately restrict sales so much that some kind of adjustment is inevitable. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to argue that a new “norm” for graphics card prices has not come into effect.
