GTA Online - The Cayo Perico Heist

The most extensive expansion of GTA Online to date

Since the official release in 2013, the online multiplayer title GTA Online has been regularly updated with new content. Under the name "The Cayo Perico Heist", the most extensive expansion to date has been released, bringing with it a wealth of new content.

Among the new content was the eponymous island of Cayo Perico, on which the gangster boss El Rubio is hiding with numerous valuables and valuable artifacts. El Rubio is guarded by heavily armed bodyguards and security forces who can make a raid on the island deadly. In order to be able to plan the raid on Cayo Perico accordingly, the players of GTA Online are given a new mobile base in the form of a submarine in "The Cayo Perico Heist".

In addition, for the first time in the history of GTA Online, it is possible to carry out the raid either completely alone or together with a team. Since the players are allowed to individually adjust parameters such as the time of day, the weapons arsenal or the air support before the raid, no run will be the same according to the developers. Especially different rewards should motivate the community to take the hunt for El Rubio's treasures more than once.

"The Cayo Perico Heist" also brings new content in the area of sound design and expands the song list of GTA Online by no less than 250 additional songs. Boredom should therefore no longer arise in the area of music for the time being.

The Future of GTA and GTA Online

For seven years now, the developers at Rockstar Games have not only been providing GTA Online with new content, but have also confirmed that the online spin-off will be released in an updated version for the next generation consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in spring 2021. This naturally raises the question of whether Rockstar Games could focus in the future on continuously developing GTA Online and forego a traditional sequel.

A scenario of this kind would certainly be conceivable, as the US competitor Activision Blizzard proved with the battle royale shooter Call of Duty: Warzone, which is continuously developed in parallel to the release of new Call of Duty titles. In the case of GTA, however, this would also only affect the online multiplayer component, while singleplayer fans can still look forward to full-fledged sequels.

After all, Rockstar Games' open-world series still ranks among the biggest and most popular video game franchises of all time. There should therefore be nothing in the way of a traditional sequel in the form of GTA 6. However, it is quite possible that this will be linked to GTA Online. Although nothing has been confirmed in this regard so far.
