Half-Life: Absolute Zero - The Return of a Fan Project
Imagine being able to travel back in time and get a glimpse of an alternative version of your favorite game. That's exactly what "Half-Life: Absolute Zero" allows you to do, a fan project that has revived the original design of "Half-Life" from 1998. This project, filled with new enemies, levels, and weapons that didn't make it into the original FPS game, finally has a release date - just in time for the game's 25th anniversary.
"Half-Life: Absolute Zero" was originally a mod project aimed at bringing back to life the early ideas and plans from the development of "Half-Life". All the chapters, monsters, and weapons that didn't make it into the final game were meant to be part of this ambitious project.
The Resurrection of Half-Life: Absolute Zero
In 2020, the "Absolute Zero" project was put on hold as the team of passionate fan developers had made little progress after a decade of working on the "Half-Life" modification. But in 2021, the tides have turned. According to a recent update on the Steam page of "Half-Life Absolute Zero", the project is back on track.
Anniversary Release
The release of "Half-Life: Absolute Zero" in an active development state is planned for November 19, 2023 - exactly on the 25th anniversary of the original game. But before you get your hopes up too high, this doesn't mean that the full game will be released for the anniversary; instead, only a portion of it will be made available.
The Future of Half-Life: Absolute Zero
The team is planning a more detailed roadmap for "Absolute Zero". Regardless of the outcome, the team's work will be released under the Creative Commons license - always with the necessary respect for Valve's copyright.
