The Hunt for the Origami Killer
The action of Heavy Rain takes place in an unspecified American city in 2011. The metropolis is plagued by a gruesome series of murders of boys, which always follow the same pattern. Firstly, the murders always take place in autumn. The boys disappear and are found drowned with an origami figure in their hand a few days later.
The protagonist Ethan Mars comes into the center of the action, whose son Shaun disappears without a trace during a visit to a playground. A short time later, Ethan receives a letter and a box with five origami figures. It is thus clear: his son is in the hands of the Origami Killer. Each of the figures contains a task that Ethan must fulfill in order to prove his love for his son and to receive clues about his whereabouts. In order to test Ethan's resolve, he is, among other things, asked to cut off a finger joint or to drive as a ghost driver on a busy highway.
Throughout the campaign in Heavy Rain, you take control of three additional characters who have made it their goal to put an end to the Origami Killer. This time, we have the journalist Madison Paige, the former police officer Scott Shelby, and the FBI agent Norman Jayden, each approaching the solution to the case in their own way.
Like Quantic Dream's previous titles, Heavy Rain is also an interactive thriller, in which your decisions actively influence the further course of the plot and lead it to one of the various endings. One of the special features of Heavy Rain is the fact that any of the four main characters can die.
If one of them bites the dust, the story simply continues without them. This makes Heavy Rain inviting for some fun experimentation and another run-through. Due to the rather dark story and the topics covered, Heavy Rain is only intended for adult players who have a thick enough skin.
A little information to finish: The Taxidermist DLC, which takes place before the events of Heavy Rain and is played with Madison, is not included in the PS4 or PC versions of the thriller.
