Welcome to the world of Holstin
"Holstin" is like a tribute to classic horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but it also integrates the light-driven themes of Alan Wake and still feels fresh and unique. It's a psychological horror game that will soon be available on Steam. Holstin is one of the most exciting games I've played this year, and you can try it out for yourself thanks to a free download on Steam.
The environments of Holstin immediately impress with hand-drawn pixel art and smooth animation. It looks so good that I was surprised to realize that you can rotate the camera for a full 360-degree view.
Terrors Lurking Around Every Corner
As soon as you begin to wander through the dark house of the demo, the dynamic lighting system comes into play. The eerie 90s Polish town of Jeziorne-Kolonia is littered with puddles of dirty slime. From these puddles, harmful red tree-like growths emerge. They block your path but retract when exposed to light.
A Genuine Sense of Horror
The game is voiced in Polish, which, along with the creepy soundtrack, further enhances the atmosphere of the game.
Resident Evil-Style Combat Sequences
The demo also includes a teaser sequence for the game's combat. If I wasn't already impressed by the game's ability to look good in full 360 degrees, the camera work behind protagonist Tomasz's shoulder during the third-person shooting, reminiscent of the newer Resident Evil 2 Remake, would have surely convinced me.
Holstin - A Must for Horror Fans
Whether you're a fan of classic horror games or looking for new and exciting titles in this genre, Holstin is definitely worth your attention. You can download the free Steam demo now or add it to your wishlist. Developer Sonka has also announced that the game will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5 in addition to the PC release.
