Homeworld 3 - How is the game doing?

The Homeworld series is one of the most popular sci-fi strategy games of all time. So it's no surprise that fans of the franchise were overjoyed when a sequel called Homeworld 3 was announced at PAX in 2019.

The sequel is being developed by Blackbird Interactive, with Gearbox Software acting as publisher. Gearbox is the company that also brought the Homeworld Remastered Collection to market. Although no specific release date was ever announced, a rough release window of Q4 2022 was announced. With very little news about Homeworld 3 since the announcement, and with 2022 now just around the corner, we're wondering what the current status of the game is.

A little teaser to calm the fans

With almost two years of radio silence, the developers of Homeworld 3 probably thought that early 2021 was the time for something new. So in April, the studio released a short video on its YouTube channel, lasting just under 30 seconds, showing an impressive Railgun frigate in action. This is a new ship unit that can deal out serious damage with its powerful railgun, firing energy projectiles over a long distance.

In contrast to the high damage and impressive range of the ship, the long recharge time of the weapon gives agile opponents an advantage. In a post on the game's crowdfunding page around the same time, the studio also announced that backers can expect more trailers and detailed video material throughout the year as the release of the game approaches. Although the information is very sparse, it seems that the game is on track and could actually be released in the planned release window of late 2022.

The news about the development status of Homeworld 3 is admittedly quite limited.
