Immortals of Aveum: Magic, Action and Thrills Galore - Discover the Debut Game from Ascendant Studios

A Look at Immortals of Aveum

When I first saw the preview of Ascendant Studios' Immortals of Aveum online, I didn't know what to expect. Apart from a reveal teaser, we had little information about Ascendant Studios' debut game. We knew it was a cinematic single-player game with magic and that EA would be publishing it - that was it.

However, after seeing and hearing more about the game, my expectations are high. Immortals of Aveum seems to be a unique blend of Ghostwire Tokyo and the latest Doom games, both titles that I have enjoyed in recent years. Additionally, Bret Robbins, former creative director for some Call of Duty titles from Sledgehammer Games like Advanced Warfare, is at the helm.

The Fascinating World of Aveum

Compared to the contemporary setting of Ghostwire Tokyo, Immortals of Aveum takes place in a completely different world. The environment looks spectacular, and I was immediately fascinated by the armor of the enemies, which appeared to be a unique blend of science fiction and fantasy.

Although the world of Aveum looks fascinating, it will not be an open-world title. Robbins has no interest in developing an open-world game. His experience in leading Call of Duty campaigns seems to be put to good use in Immortals of Aveum by focusing on scripted and suspenseful moments rather than a large open playing field with markers.

However, that doesn't mean the game won't offer exploration. I'm excited to learn more about Aveum and its history. Robbins says the game "offers enough exploration to spend a lot of time in this world and discover many interesting things off the beaten path." He compares the game's structure to the critically acclaimed God of War reboot series in terms of exploration and world-building.

The Main Story: Jak and the Everwar

Although the world-building is exciting, I want to learn more about the main story. Players take on the role of Jak, a former street orphan who is considered an Unforeseen - someone who gains magical abilities in adulthood. Jak is a Triarch, who, after a traumatic event, gains access to all three forms of magic. Jak is portrayed by actor Darren Barnet, and it seems that Jak has a carefree and confident attitude that could fit well with the dark scenario of the Everwar - the battle for control of magic in Aveum.

EA Originals and Trust in Immortals of Aveum

Given the strength of the current EA Originals portfolio, I have great confidence in the vision of Immortals of Aveum. Hopefully, we will find out if this debut game lives up to the studio's inspiring vision as the release date of Immortals of Aveum approaches. Nevertheless, any game that combines God of War, Doom, and Ghostwire Tokyo is worth a try, right?
