The sequel to the successful predecessor Insurgency, the multiplayer shooter Insurgency: Sandstorm, already appeared in December 2018 with its realistic and highly tactical gameplay convincing a large number of players. The release of Insurgency: Sandstorm took place initially exclusively on the PC, before publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer New World Interactive delivered the console version for PS4 and Xbox One in September 2021. Thanks to backward compatibility, of course, the first-person shooter can also be enjoyed on the new console models, i.e. on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
So far, crossplay is only available within one device family, so that Xbox One and Xbox Series users can play together, as well as PS4 and PS5 owners.
But the developer studio has already announced that full crossplay support is planned for the future, which will be implemented as a free update.
What does Insurgency: Sandstorm offer?
In Insurgency: Sandstorm you can look forward to fast-paced battles in close quarters, which will test your team skills, your reflexes and your tactical skills. The shooter chooses a devastated former war zone in the Middle East as its setting, which shows all facets of modern warfare. So it's not just about your skill with the weapon, which is additionally challenged by realistically implemented ballistics.
Due to the small size of the maps, there are also regular brutal close-quarters battles in which it is a matter of life and death. In addition to a comprehensive arsenal of weapons, you also have support tools such as air support, smoke grenades or usable armed vehicles at your disposal, which offer numerous tactical options. A powerful HDR sound, limited ammunition and positional voice chat round off the realism claim of the first-person shooter.
What were the innovations in 2021?
It is important for multiplayer shooters that have been on the market for a long time that new content is delivered on a regular basis to keep the player numbers high. Insurgency: Sandstorm does not rest on its laurels and regularly supplies the community with new input.
So all fans of the shooter could look forward to a large content package in August, which brought fresh wind into the gameplay.
