A Look at Islands of Insight

Behaviour Interactive and Lunarch Studios gave us a first glimpse of their new idyllic open-world puzzle game Islands of Insight at the PC Gaming Show. Although I still have many questions, especially about the shared world co-op multiplayer aspect, I am looking forward to getting my hands on Islands of Insight in the future while keeping its personal tone.

What to Expect in Islands of Insight?

Behaviour Interactive describes Islands of Insight as an "epic open-shared-world puzzle adventure game," which immediately piques my curiosity. During my demo, I didn't see any of the shared world elements, but after seeing what players will be doing in the game, I'm even more excited to see how this shared world will function. As a seeker of knowledge, you explore a vibrant and diverse mass of floating islands that seem to be inspired by various aspects of the ancient world.

Solving puzzles and exploring the world

To progress from island to island, you must solve puzzles, and if what I saw in 20 minutes is any indication, it won't be difficult to find puzzles. There is an amazing amount of puzzles in this world and many different types of puzzles.

There is no linear path through Islands of Insight; you just have to solve puzzles to access new areas of the game. A campaign was briefly mentioned during my demo, but the team had nothing more to say about it. Interestingly, there was a golden objective: to go inside a pyramid.

The shared world multiplayer aspect

After this demo, I was particularly curious about the shared world aspect of the game. The team wouldn't tell me how many players are on a server, but they said that each instanced puzzle is solved on the player's side, even if you're playing with friends on the same server. If I solve a puzzle, it only counts in my game, but my friend can watch me solve a puzzle and then solve it in their game as well.

That's why I'm curious about why this game has a shared world multiplayer aspect. Since the game can be played completely in single player mode and puzzle progress only applies to individual players and not the entire server, I wonder what playing with others adds to the experience.

Islands of Insight on Steam

That's something I want to learn more about in the future. For now, Islands of Insight is available on Steam. If you're looking for more exciting games, check out our Steam Keys on Keyfuchs!
