Jets'n'Guns 2 - breathtaking sequel to the classic 2D space shooter

After just under 20 months in Early Access, Czech indie developer Rake in Grass finally released Jets'n'Guns 2 on July 24, 2020, the second part of their popular Jets'n'Guns series. The 2D shoot'em-up offers many exclusive features and is convincing with new weapons and game modes.

In Jets'n'Guns 2 you control, as in the classic predecessor from 2004, the space ship of a space combat pilot. After the evil dictator Xoxx was defeated in the first part, now a new, more powerful opponent awaits you. This unknown enemy came from another galaxy and is bent on destruction, which of course you have to prevent him from doing.

The space shooter is based primarily on many elements of the classic shoot'em-up games. Both the 2D graphics and the "side-scrolling", which forces the player to move forward, remain intact. There is also the possibility, as in the predecessor, to buy upgrades and extras for your ship between the individual levels. With the coins collected in battle, your spaceship becomes bigger and more powerful over time.

But in addition to the elements from classic space shooters, Jets'n'Guns 2 also offers many innovations that are supposed to lift the game series to a new quality level. The most intensive revision probably took place in the graphics of the game. In contrast to the (in this respect incomparable) predecessor, the universe shines in new splendor: Not only the varied and atmospheric backgrounds, but also the detailed and unique space vehicles and "obstacles" transport you into an unbelievable nostalgia flashback. Also the brightly lit effects such as laser beams and explosions look more fun and versatile than in 2004.

The weapon arsenal of Jets'n'Guns 2, which offers numerous new weapons, also received an upgrade to provide you with even more possibilities for destruction. You also have the choice of space ships themselves, as developer Rake in Grass has developed cool new weapons in addition to brand new space vehicles. This opens up a multitude of combination possibilities for the respective levels, which will never make the space shooter boring.

Jets'n'Guns 2 has also managed to add a new game mode. In the local co-op mode, it is now possible for the first time in the shoot'em-up series to fight together with friends against the evil space ships of the enemy.

The mix of old and new elements, combined with a suitable, epic hard rock song by the Swedish band "Machinae Supremacy", really brings back childhood memories. This is also underlined by the community ratings on Steam: 95% of the 580 ratings are extremely positive. Steam user "Frozen Ray", who claims to be a huge fan of the predecessor, particularly likes the graphics and controller support. But above all, the music stands out, which would even surpass the "impossible to top tracks of Jets'n'Guns", according to him.

The 2D space shooter is of course aimed directly at the fans of the popular predecessor from 2004, who associate the "humorous violence" with their childhood, as the developers describe it on Steam. In particular, the nostalgia is a reason to buy for many users. But not only the established community, but also new players can have a lot of fun in Jets'n'Guns 2. The extremely easy to learn game mechanics and controls provide entertainment from the first second.

In addition to Jets'n'Guns, the Czech developer Rake in Grass is also known for Rampage Knights from 2015 and Archibald's Adventures from 2008, which you should definitely take a closer look at. Here you will not only find spaceship fights, but also puzzle fun and jump'n'run adventures.
