Kenshi - Sandbox RPG with great player freedom

Developer Lo-Fi Games sends you into a vast apocalyptic sandbox world full of bloodthirsty cannibals, ruthless bandits, and wild beasts in the single-player fantasy role-playing game Kensh. The game world is completely open and can be explored freely, while foregoing a linear story. In addition to role-playing elements, it also offers team-based controls and city-building functions borrowed from strategy games.

Development and Inspiration

Development of Kenshi began in 2006 and was originally programmed by Chris Hunt solo. As it became apparent that the game would be a success, Hunt was able to assemble a small team to help with programming. According to Hunt, development of the game was inspired by stories of Japanese ronin. Ronin were masterless samurai of the feudal period, whose masters had been killed, for example. Hunt therefore describes the game world as "sword-punk".

Characters

In Kenshi, you design your character from scratch, as there are no pre-made classes. You can decide for yourself whether your character will later become a thief, bandit, rebel, warlord or mercenary. If you're pacifist, you can also become a trader, doctor, businessman or explorer. But first you have to survive, as all characters are equally weak at the beginning and there is no level scaling. The game world is not based on the experience level of your alter ego and therefore survival at the beginning depends on your cleverness. Shape your game character according to your ideas, develop their strengths and watch them grow and prosper.
Train their skills in robotics, theft, medicine, weapon forging and more.

Course of the game and combat system

You have complete freedom of choice in the course of the game. It is up to you whether you roam the game world alone, join forces with others or build your own city. The combat system is kept in the style of real-time strategy and gives you the choice of eliminating your opponents in close combat or at a distance. The game realistically depicts injuries. Wounded characters limp, crawl, bleed and their blood loss should be stopped to avoid attracting predators. Lost limbs can be replaced with prosthetics. For this you hopefully thought of a hospital bed for healing the wounds when building the city.

In the cities you can also research weapons and trade. You can build an empire and decide for yourself whether you want to be good or evil. The open game world always remains in motion and offers endless possibilities to adapt your playing style.
