The round-based fantasy role-playing game King's Bounty from 1990 set standards in the field of role-playing game development. Designer Jon Van Caneghem used his experience in producing King's Bounty to then establish the tactical role-playing series Heroes of Might and Magic. Accordingly, great was the joy when the Russian video game company 1C Company announced in 2019 that it was working on a direct sequel titled King's Bounty II.
King's Bounty II enters the 3D age
However, the announcement trailers showed a surprisingly different change to the classic titles: The exploration of the game world now takes place completely in 3D. For the fights, King's Bounty II then switches to the classic isometric perspective. The 3D passages bring the presentation of the game closer to well-known AAA role-playing games such as Dragon Age. Also the choice of a hero with background story as well as the focus on character-forming elements and decisions in dialogues we know from Dragon Age. But it could just as well be said that Dragon Age was influenced by games like Heroes and King's Bounty.
More Dragon Age or Heroes?
King's Bounty II promises to be a mix of classic strategy game and modern exploration. So fans have to get used to a different game feeling. It is a daring project that could bring a unique gaming experience: Intensively explore a diverse fantasy world without having to forego tactical, round-based battles.
King's Bounty II will be released in August 2021 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch. Then get yourself a cheap game key at Keyfuchs and convince yourself whether the gap between Dragon Age and Heroes has been successful.
