League of Legends - Ryu 'Keria' Min-seok and the Lux Skin Disappointment

The Dream of the Lux Skin remains unfulfilled

It's the cherry on top, the reward for endless hours of training and nerve-wracking competitions. We're talking about the champion skins in League of Legends that are made available to the winners of the MOBA's most important tournament. But this year, for T1 Support Ryu 'Keria' Min-seok, not everything that glitters is gold after the triumph at Worlds 2023.

Keria had hoped for a skin for Lux - a champion he didn't actually play during the tournament. However, since Riot Games only produces skins for champions played in the tournament, it looks like Keria's wish will remain unfulfilled. A small dampener on the wave of joy for the young world champion.

The Decision: Bard or Renata?

In a stream after the match, Keria revealed that he was disappointed when Riot Games gave him the choice between Bard and Renata. "I never thought about any other skin. So I went to the Riot meeting and talked mostly about Lux... I asked them to make her look pretty, and they told me they could make Bard look pretty too. And I was just disappointed."

His teammate Lee 'Gumayusi' Min-hyung confirmed Keria's dissatisfaction in a separate stream and explained that he is "very sad because there are no options he likes and he has to choose between Bard and Renata".

Skins: A Heart of League of Legends

Skins are an important part of the player experience in League of Legends. They allow players to customize their favorite champions and identify with them even more. The skins of the world champions are particularly coveted.

Many players may wonder: Why can't Keria just get a Lux skin? The answer lies in Riot Games' tradition. Only champions played during the tournament are eligible for a skin. A rule that perhaps should be reconsidered?

Fair or Unfair?

Whether the rule is fair or unfair is a matter of debate. However, the fact is that it currently exists and affects all players equally. It would certainly be nice if every player could get the skin for their favorite champion. But perhaps it is precisely this limitation that makes the World Championship skins so appealing. After all, they not only represent the player, but also the champion set played during the tournament.

Be that as it may, we hope that Keria can still enjoy his victory to the fullest and we look forward to the new skins for the champions Bard and Renata. And who knows, maybe next time we'll see a Lux skin on the tournament field of League of Legends.
