With Lumberjack's Dynasty, Austrian developer Toplitz Productions has created a title that makes you want to roll up your sleeves and start up the chainsaw right away. But the game is not just a forestry simulator, it also convinces with classic RPG elements.
Lumberjack's Dynasty simulates the life of a lumberjack. You start on a neglected farm that you have inherited from your father. At the beginning, your only possessions are a house, a large area of forest and a sawmill. Your task: Build a lumberjack empire and use your proceeds to grow further and help your rundown family property regain its former glory.
What makes this title special is the successful mix of an economic and life simulator with role-playing elements. On the one hand, you can manage your forest, process the wood and set up a sales production to expand your dynasty. On the other hand, you can marry, start a family and collect social points. Every decision you make during the game also affects future events.
The game was released on Steam as Early Access on April 30, 2020 - and will remain in Early Access status for at least 6 months. During this time, the developer studio wants to contact the community, collect feedback and then implement the wishes or suggestions of the players. Depending on how much feedback the developer studio receives, the release of the full version may take a while. In addition, work is also being done on console conversions, which are all scheduled to be released at the same time.
According to Toplitz Productions, the full version will differ significantly from the Early Access version in terms of scope. Some loose ends are to be tied up and numerous new game mechanics are to be developed. The story will be expanded as a whole, new characters will appear on the scene and more machines will be added, for example heavy equipment from Finnish market leader Ponnse. In the full version you will also be able to buy animals and invest in more skills as well as discover entirely new quest lines.
According to Toplitz, the price for the Early Access version on Steam has been especially chosen to be "attractive" in order to bring in as many players as possible, whose feedback can then be used to expand and improve the game. Depending on how much work is still being put into the finalization, the price will be adjusted for the final release.
Lumberjack's Dynasty will appeal to those who enjoy both simulators and role-playing games. The genre mix makes the game something special and combines two elements that are rarely found together in a game. With one exception: the title "Farmer's Dynasty", which also comes from Toplitz Productions. The principle is the same - only in Farmer's Dynasty, as the name suggests, it is about agriculture and not forestry. The developer studio is betting on bringing together the players of both titles into a large community.
